Linear 200 Pro 40 Linear
Response Controller

Dave DeMott used the PWM HO-1/32 controller prototype in June 2009 to qualify
for the SCX Nationals at the Pennsylvania Regional SCX Qualifier held at Great
Traditions Hobby Shop. Dave’s comments after the SCX qualifying race were
telling:
“The controller worked flawlessly…extremely smooth and easy to drive with great
brakes. So far so good with a new controller, new track, new car, and an old bald
driver. I was only 2 laps out of 1st after 40 minutes of racing and the SCX Nats are
on the same track. I’m feeling good about this one.”

Chris Barnes, of Hoschton, Georgia, was looking for a controller with a very soft
power band to suit his retro car driving style. His PWM LP transistor module was
outfitted with a control chip that changed its linear throttle response to
SOFTouch™ throttle control and sent to him for evaluation. He promptly went out
and won three retro races with it, TQ’d in another and commented:
“The testing of the new module went very well. It took a little while to adjust to the
new power band, but it was very enjoyable. The weight of the total controller is so
small, it has to be a great selling point.”
- Chris Barnes, Hoschton, Georgia
Mike McMasters, owner of Tom Thumb Hobbies in Columbus, Ohio performed
performance benchmark testing on the PWM LP controller, equipped with a
SOFTouch™ control chip as per Chris’s comments above. Comparing it to two
other leading brands, he found that while acceleration was off slightly due to the
soft throttle curve as expected, he had this to say about his findings:
“Top speed was definitely faster than my <deleted> using the PWM MOSFET
module and very slightly faster than my <deleted>. Braking was where your
controller shined. It braked significantly faster than either of my two controllers.
VERY noticeable with a Falcon 7. I would love to drive this controller with a linear
throttle profile control chip…I GOTTA HAVE ONE!!!”
Looking at things from a business perspective, Mike also then went on to say:
“I think if I start using one and allowing my racers to use it for races, then demand
should follow.”
- Mike McMasters, Columbus, Ohio
Harry Sroka, of South Jersey, took first place in his local Box 12 Championship
race during his first outing with his brand new Linear 200 Pro 40
controller…having won by about 20 laps or so.
Here’s what Harry had to say in his 4/2/08 post on www.oldweirdherald.com:
“Well I used my new controller for the first time yesterday in a Box12
Championship race at Sonny's. It took only 2 heats to get the braking right and I
have to say it is one awesome controller. It was amazing how deep I could go into
the dead man before braking and also the lead on on black. The only problem I
had was that I had to fabricate a hanger for the circuit board. I could not see it just
hanging there. Otherwise it is one hell of a controller. Thanks again Jeff.”
- Harry Sroka, South Jersey
Andy Kimbrough, Owner - Fastlane Raceway, Evansville, Indiana wrote the
following in an email to JayGee racing on 4/7/2008:
“After a few months of net research, I bought a Linear 200 Pro 40 last week as a
high end demo unit for my raceway. I have raced slot cars intermittently since the
mid 60's, & I am a recovering Systems Engineer. Today, I run FastLane Raceway
in Evansville, IN.
Beside myself, 3 people have tried it, & we all have been able to cut .2 seconds off
< 5 second lap times on my 90' flat hill climb. I am going to order another today for
the one guy who cannot resist, & expect to sell several more after he moves from
the back of the pack.
Damn Well Done on a well engineered product.”

Ron "Zippity" Thornton, New Zealand posted the following on 4/10/08 on OWH:
"Holy Hell !! My new toy [Linear 200 Pro 40] arrived yesterday from Chicago -
thanks Roger for such fantastic service Needless to say, I wasted little time
replacing the 'gator clips with a female IEC safety plug (as us edumicated Kiwis
use) and tried it out on our club track last night. My first reaction? The 200 scared
the jeepers out of me with its amazing brakes. Talk about stopping on a button.
Now all I need is plenty of track time to figure out the best settings for the different
classes we run
Thanks Jeff. You have produced a neat controller"
He went on to say in a follow-on post on 4/12/08:
"Did I say that I love the "lightness" of this new featherweight controller. And the
smoooooooooth delicate touch of the wiper and the dual ball-raced trigger
control?? I think I am in love"
- Ron "Zippity" Thornton, New Zealand
Glenn “1Slowhand” Henderson, Richmond VA had to say on OWH on 4/13/08:
"Just a superior job of engineering. I can concentrate on driving the car now
instead of worrying about over driving it. Staying competitive is easier than ever.
Thanx Jeff for making it even more fun !"
- Glenn "1Slowhand" Henderson, Richmond VA
